How to Create Consistency

So many of us have the desire to create sustainable healthy habits. We would love to eat better and exercise consistently. We make plans to lose 20 pounds in 1 month and hit the gym 5 days a week. These goals are amazing but are they realistic and achievable? Not likely.

As a nurse with 14 years of work experience, and nutrition and wellness coach, I’ve noticed one common trend when talking to patients, family, and friends: challenges with staying consistent. This often leads to feelings of failure.

I started my health journey about 14 years ago and quickly learned one simple and true thing that transformed my mindset and allows me to stay consistent.

First and foremost, do what makes you happy! This cannot be stressed enough! Your wellness journey is unique and should be treated as such.  The gym isn’t for everyone but seems to be the default for most.

Dance, swim, hiking, pilates, yoga are all different ways to get regular physical activity. I myself have been a pilates instructor, avid yogi, crossfit, aerial yoga, pole dancing, barre. Seems like I’ve tried it all!  Whenever I get bored, I change it up!

So for today, forget about calories and pounds. Take time to think about what activity makes you happy. Once you find it, everything else will feel 10x easier.
